Passover is a spring festival celebrating the simultaneous & interlocked miracles of Birth & Liberation. Encoded within the ritual technologies of the Passover Seder are keys for unlocking and activating cellular memory of the ancestors' journey out of Mitzrayim (the narrow place), towards FREEDOM.

But how can we access, embrace and ignite these technologies as part of our work of individual healing and collective Liberation? How can we utilize these tools to incinerate the old, out-dated systems of oppression and domination and invoke a paradigm of healing, justice, peace, reparation & Liberation for ALL?

This year, you are invited to invest in your Passover Practice in radical, magical community. Join us as we dream our way into a practice that awakens in us our inherited knowing of how to GET FREE.

Join Elana June Margolis, Keshira haLev Fife, Annie-Rose London, Koach Baruch Frasier, Hadar Cohen, Jules Pashall & Shira Kline for a day long retreat exploring the possibility of Passover as an embodied map towards liberation.

Closed captioning will be provided via automated service.

Topics to be explored include:

  • HAGGADAHS: How to find them, how to make them, how to use them!

  • FROM A DISTANCE: mechanics & spiritual significance of Solo Seders & Seders on the Zoom

  • The ALCHEMICAL SEDER: Somatic exercises to re-awaken our cellular memory of HOW TO GET FREE

  • BIRTH AS LIBERATION, LIBERATION AS BIRTH: Cycles of Freedom Ever Unfolding

  • CHAMETZ: Cleansing the Cupboards of our Souls in Celebration of ALL of Our Parts, Filthy & Pure! Releasing our baggage, reclaiming our sovereignty, incinerating the old paradigms of oppression and using the ash to fertilize the New World of LIBERATION

Background:
This is the Jewish time of collective ripening and rebirth. While Jews are said to have been freed from physical bondage on Passover, they wandered the metaphorical desert for years before healing from their internalized bondage. Counting of the Omer is a 7 week daily practice, beginning at Passover and culminating with Shavuot, that leads us through the process of internal liberation through engaging with the sephirot - qualities said to be the fundamental energies that G~d* uses to create worlds. Many people have found creative ways to leverage this period of time to study, heal, renew, connect.

Why:

  • Based on the mystical Jewish understanding of G~d* as divine Creator, and humankind as collaborator invited to engage with Creation by being like G~d* and creating.

  • We are trashing the narrative that to be an artist, creator or a leader is to be alone and exceptional. This cohort is designed to be deeply accepting, eager to celebrate each other’s creative gifts regardless of what form they take, and joyful.

The Omer Projects:
All participants are invited to develop a creative inquiry through the period of the Counting of the Omer. They can relate directly to the Counting of the Omer of the sephirot, or not. They can be any/multi medium (extra bonus points if they aren’t the medium you usually work with!). You do not have to know what project you want to play with when you start the cohort - we’ll discuss that together in the first session. The Counting of the Omer is a 49 day period, and your project should span the entire period. That could either look like a daily creative practice or a 49 day period of research/creation/reflection, etc.

Random examples of potential Omer Projects:

  • Research biblical references to herbs and then make a tincture with them

  • Explore your inner clown for 15 minutes a day and just see what happens

  • Produce your first zoom theatre piece

  • Make your own translation of a Hebrew prayer

  • Write a poem every day

  • Trace the Sephirot on your body & discover how these energies do (or don’t) live in your physical/ spiritual/ emotional form

  • Re-translate the Sephirot and the pairings of the Sephirot

  • Engage your creative forces to draw the various combinations of sephirot each day

  • Deepen your prayer practice, singing practice, silence practice each day throughout the Omer

  • Walk the same route each day and observe the process of Becoming as your surroundings bloom.

Shake it out! Calling all activists, thinkers and feelers - no next-steps for the movement will benefit from being all up in our heads and outof touch with our bodies. These sessions are grounded in InterPlay, an improv modality that uses a playful approach to movement, storytelling, listening and song to tap into body wisdom.

These sessions are all by-donation and raise funds for mutual aid projects. Held by Playful Resilience - a collective of facilitators dedicated to supporting body wisdom since the Covid-19 pandemic began in March 2020.

This class is a joyful and magical monthly space full of all the Jewish learning I wish I had as a child. Elan/a June is a visionary. I'm a clown. You are welcome. Through study, meditation, creative exploration and community connection we begin to experience the Jewish holidays not as individual blips on the calendar but as interwoven cycles within a wheel. We explore the rhythms of Rosh Chodesh, Shabbat, Yarzheits, Hebrew Birthdays and the themes/ origin stories of the Jewish months as well festival days. Drop-in for a month or sign up for the year. Zoom classes are recorded and shared.

In the midst of so much unravel the Jewish calendar provides an ancestrally-crafted structure rich with wisdom on how to survive, make meaning, heal and connect amidst heartbreaking upheaval.

When better to wean ourselves off of Christian hegemonic linear time than during the on-going collapse of White Supremacy, Patriarchy and Capitalism!?

When better to tap into a wheel of time rich with earth-based wisdom on navigating endings, beginnings and the spaces in between?

When better to work with a calendar that makes space for deep grief, ecstatic connection, erotic bliss, restorative rest, bittersweet separation, transformation, healing, and reparation?

If this invitation speaks to you, please join us for 5781: a monthly study group on the Jewish calendar.

We meet once a month on Zoom on the Wednesday before Rosh Chodesh (the new moon/ new month) from 8-9:30 PM ET/ 5-6:30 PM PT.  Zoom classes will be recorded and shared.  Course materials will be sent out in the week preceding each Zoom session.

Registration fees are sliding scale:
$180 - $270 for entire year (12 sessions)
$21 - $36 for a one-time drop in (space allowing)
